Why Is My Electric Shower Not Heating?
Water flow with no heat does not automatically mean the electrical supply is healthy. The shower controls, heating can and flow conditions all interact.

No heat can be a water-flow, control or heating-assembly fault
Poor flow or a blocked inlet can prevent proper heating, while a failed heating can, thermal cut-out, microswitch or PCB can leave the water cold. A competent person should check both water-side operation and the high-load electrical circuit.
User cleaning should follow the manufacturer’s instructions only; do not remove the electrical cover or defeat flow controls.

Electric showers combine water, heat and a very high electrical load
A shower that trips, runs cold or changes temperature can have a water-flow issue, a failed heating can, an overheated isolator or a circuit problem. Because the equipment is high load and in a special location, internal checks belong to competent people.
Cold with strong stable flow
Heating assembly or controls may have failed.
Temperature improves with lower flow
Available heating power and flow rate are interacting.
Intermittent heat with crackling
Stop immediately and investigate electrical connections.
Turning the dial beyond maximum does not manufacture extra kilowatts. It only gives the fault another audience.

Common causes worth testing—not guessing
These are possibilities that fit the symptom, not a remote diagnosis. More than one condition can exist at the same time.

The element assembly can fail electrically or stop producing heat even though water still flows.

An overheated isolator
Loose terminations at pull-cord or wall isolators are a common high-load failure point.

Low flow or blocked inlet
Some showers reduce or stop heating when water flow is inadequate.

Internal controls or thermal cut-out
A sensor, microswitch, PCB or thermal device can prevent correct heating.

Circuit or protection mismatch
The cable, installation method and protective device must suit the shower rating.

What you can check without opening electrics
The aim is to give a qualified electrician useful evidence, not to turn a customer into a live-fault investigator.
Stop using an abnormal shower
Turn it off at its normal controls and isolator if you notice trips, burning smell, crackling or unstable operation.
Observe flow and symptoms
Note whether water flow is strong, whether cold mode works and exactly when the trip occurs.
Look at the isolator from outside
Discolouration, heat, smell or stiffness means leave it off and arrange urgent inspection.
Read the rating label
Record the make, model and kW rating for the electrician; do not remove the shower cover.
Stop at the cover: no socket faceplates, consumer-unit covers, light fittings, isolators or appliance panels should be opened unless you are competent, equipped and able to isolate and prove dead correctly.
05 / USEFUL CLUES
What the timing and location can suggest
A clue narrows the test plan; it does not prove the cause. Equipment can behave differently on another circuit while still carrying a fault.
06 / DO NOT WAIT
When this becomes an urgent warning
Keep the affected circuit or equipment off, if it is safe to operate the normal switch, and seek urgent help when you notice:
- Heat, smell or crackling at the shower or isolator
- Water leaking into electrical parts or from the casing
- Repeated RCD or breaker operation
- Shock or tingling from controls, water or nearby metalwork
- Visible scorching, arcing or cable damage
If there is smoke or fire, get everyone to safety and call 999. Do not touch wet or damaged electrical equipment. Suspected faults around the meter, service head or incoming supply may also require the electricity network or metering operator.

Why is my shower hot in summer but cold in winter?
