Are smart switches better than smart bulbs?

They solve different problems. A smart switch or relay is usually better for dependable whole-circuit control; a smart bulb is useful when individual colour, colour temperature or lamp-level scenes matter. The room may reasonably use both.

Will a smart bulb work if the wall switch is off?

Normally no. A connected bulb needs electrical power to receive commands. If the wall switch can isolate it, the household must understand that behavior or the switching design must be changed appropriately.

Do smart switches need a neutral wire?

Many do, while some products are designed for no-neutral arrangements. Compatibility depends on the exact product, load and existing circuit, so the wiring should be inspected before equipment is ordered.

Can I keep my existing decorative switches?
